Students from Grade 9 - Grade 12
The PTIS International School offers a unique opportunity to study abroad. PTIS offers the rigorous and internationally-recognised International Baccalaureate Programmes and a boarding experience in one of the region’s best day and boarding schools.
Students in Study Abroad! will also experience the rich cultural and ethnic experiences offered in this dynamic part of Asia. Study Abroad! students must be committed to their studies while at the same time wanting to experience Northern Thailand and expand their international living experiences and understanding.
For parents, knowing that their son or daughter is participating in an overseas experience in a fully-accredited international school with first-class boarding and a secure environment is a comforting thought.
A six-month to one-year cultural and academic immersion at PTIS combines the excitement of living in a foreign country with exposure to a challenging academic programme.
Students who choose Study Abroad! will have a transforming experience. They will be enriched through their exposure to different cultures and religions and by being a part of a minority group in a foreign land.
At the end of the Study Abroad! experience, students will seamlessly reintegrate into their high schools to complete their high school or secondary school graduation. PTIS will work closely with students’ home school to ensure credits are transferrable.
The minimum time a student can join Study Abroad! is two terms (five months) - but many students start Study Abroad! and then decide to stay to complete their IB Diploma Programme and their secondary education.
The IB Diploma Programme (www.ibo.org) is recognised by the world’s top universities which value the depth and breadth of the rigorous work undertaken by students. Universities also welcome the creativity, action, service (CAS) requirement and the 4,000-word extended essay completed by Diploma students.

Residential Experience
Many study abroad programmes only offer host family accommodation.
Students at PTIS live in wonderful boarding apartments, mixing with other students and with teachers and families who are familiar with the needs of students studying and living away from their own country for the first time.
A two-week school trip through Europe or New Zealand is not the same as a Study Abroad! programme.
An international boarding experience with students from around the world breaks down barriers and cultural misconceptions; it teaches balance and fosters strong cultural understanding.
Students are supported as they learn to balance the demands of classroom studies, relationships, and personal growth as responsible members of the broader global community.

One of the unique aspects of Study Abroad! is the opportunity for parents to visit a son or daughter for a few days or a week - and to stay in an on-campus boutique hotel - the PTIS Residences.
Using this area as a base, parents can explore Chiang Mai - and by combining a visit with a term break families can also visit exciting cultural and historical destinations in the South-east Asia.
UNESCO World Heritage sites at Luang Prabrang and Ankor Wat, Bangkok, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and other wonderful sites are all possible using PTIS as a base.
